抄録

　社会規範に関する研究では、人間の「利他性」への言及がしばしばなされる。本稿の目的は、社会規範（特に協力行動に関係する規範）の研究において「利他性」の概念がいかなる文脈で用いられているかを概観したうえで、その「利他性」が社会規範にどのように反映されうるかについて、従来とは異なる観点から考察を加えることにある。
　個人がもつ「利他性」は、社会にとって望ましい結果だけでなく、望ましくない結果ももたらしうる。「利他性」は社会規範の形成に必要な要素であるが、社会における人間同士の相互作用を通じて、典型的な社会規範研究が想定していたものとは別の形で発現することがある。本稿ではこのプロセスを「正当化のゲーム」として素描し、最後に規範の「外面化」について述べている。

abstract

The current social norms literature often refers to altruism. The purpose of this paper is to review several ways in which the concept of altruism is employed, especially in the literature on cooperation norms, and to shed new light on how altruism can reflect on social norms.
An individual’s altruistic tendencies can lead not only to desirable social results but also to some undesirable consequences. Although altruism is an essential factor in the formation of a social norm, it sometimes manifests in ways that differ from what the social norms literature has assumed, through the interaction among actors in a given society. In this paper, I describe this process as a “game of justification,” and end with a discussion of the externalization of norms.
