概要

　本稿は1951 年に実施された京浜工業地帯従業員調査（従業員調査）の調査原票からデータセットを構築していった過程を振り返ることで，今後このデータセットを用いた二次分析を行うさいに考慮に入れておくべき前提的な事柄を確認することを目的とする．京浜工業地帯（従業員調査）は，東京大学社会科学研究所所蔵の労働調査資料の一つであり，社会科学研究所の書庫には，この調査で回収された原票のほぼすべてが残されている．本稿ではまず同調査がどのような経緯と問題意識で実施されたものであるかを概観する（第Ⅰ節）．次いで，この調査のこれまでの研究利用のあり方について氏原正治郎の論考を中心に検討し，今回のデータセット構築プロジェクトの意義を確認する（第Ⅱ節）．その上でデータセットの構築過程を叙述し，二次分析に際して留意すべき事項を指摘する（第Ⅲ節）．最後に，作成されたデータセットを用いた研究成果のいくつかを紹介した上で（第Ⅳ節），このデータセットを用いた研究の可能性を展望する（第Ⅴ節）．

Abstract

This paper reflects on the practical process of constructing a dataset from the returned survey forms of the 1951 Keihin Industrial Zone Employee Survey and identifies key prerequisites for future secondary analyses using this dataset. It begins by providing an overview of the survey, including its context and motivations. The paper then highlights the significance of the dataset construction project by exploring the technical and methodological restrictions faced by major prior research utilizing the survey, such as the absence of computer-based statistical tools in early 1950s Japan. Following this, it details the methodology and steps involved in building the dataset and clarifies the preconditions that future analyses of the dataset should take into account. Finally, the paper presents several findings derived from the dataset and explores its potential for prospective research.
